Ethics Committee

Statement of Purpose

The IAASE Ethics Committee will serve as a peer review committee to ensure that each Member understands and adheres to standards of professional integrity, as set forth, in the established IAASE Code of Ethics.

Function and Tasks of Ethics Committee


  • The Ethics Committee will provide current information and guidance to the membership on best ethical practices. The Committee will provide information, technical assistance and professional development regarding the interpretation and application of the IAASE Code of Ethics.

  • The Ethics Committee will periodically review and recommend revisions to the IAASE Code of Ethics consistent with best practice. (May 2004 IAASE Code of Ethics)

  • The Ethics Committee will investigate allegations of violations of the IAASE Code of Ethics as directed by the Executive Board

  • The Ethics Committee will submit a report of findings when directed to investigate allegations to the IAASE President with recommendations for the Executive Board action. These recommendations may include:

    • The offer of assistance to the Member.

    • The issuance of a letter of censure.

    • The suspension of the IAASE membership.

    • The revocation of the IAASE membership.

    • Other action as appropriate to the facts and investigation finding.

  • The IAASE President will recommend the approval of the Ethics Committee Chairperson(s) from a membership list of current Members.

  • Terms of the Ethics Committee Chairperson(s) shall be for two (2) years and their appointment aligned with the term and recommendation of each new IAASE President. Chairperson(s) may be reappointed for successive two (2) year terms. Chairperson(s) who leave the position prior to the end of the two (2) years shall be replaced to fulfill the remaining portion of the two (2) year term.

  • The Ethics Committee Chairperson(s) shall be a voting Member(s) of the IAASE Executive Board.

  • The Ethics Committee Chairperson(s) will appoint Members in good standing to participate on the Committee. The Committee Chairperson(s) may add Members at any time and the term will be consistent with the term of each IAASE President.

  • The Ethics Committee Members will consist of a minimum of five (5) Members.

  • The Ethics Committee Members will be selected based on the diversity of the IAASE membership including, the IAASE regions, experience, gender and racial background.

  • The Ethics Committee Members terms shall be for two (2) years and their appointment aligned with the term of each new IAASE President. The Ethics Committee Members may be reappointed to successive two (2) year terms. The Committee Members who leave the position prior to the end of a two (2) year term shall be replaced to fulfill the remaining portion of the term.
