Newsletter Excerpt “MY WISH” by: Sue Carrescia

Sue CarresciaWelcome to another year as a Special Educator! We are a resilient group of people, with strong determination, flexible time management skills, and keen ideas on how to better serve our students. These are the reasons we keep working through the myriad of roadblocks that spring up or are tossed in our way on a daily basis. Our mission is clear: Serve special needs students to the best of our ability, meeting their individual needs through clear and concise goals and objectives that match their personal learning issues. This is a tall order in this time of fiscal tightening, climate and environmental flux, the changing demographics of our students, and the increasingly complex nature of students’ disabilities.

Our organization, IAASE, serves six goals:

  1. A strong organizational vision and future for IAASE.
  2. Strengthening networking and collaboration.
  3. Improving service delivery.
  4. Developing proactive power as a unified group.
  5. Influencing funding, legislation, and policies.
  6. Supporting professional development.

To meet these goals we continue to provide quality conferences, bringing in national and statewide talent to keep us current in best practices. Our Innovative Practices ommittee recently published a video series “RTI: From Concept to Reality” containing 8 training modules which are available to members on our web site. These modules look at Response to Intervention from inception through implementation, providing direct instruction on all phases of the project.
